Bloom

IPhone Apps: Brian Eno’s Bloom Raises the Bar for Musical iPhone Apps
Brian Eno, the father of ambient music and one of the greatest musical minds of our time, has just teamed up with musician/programmer Peter Chilvers to create one of the coolest, most unique iPhone apps to hit the App Store yet. Called Bloom, it’s “part instrument, part composition and part artwork.” It’s also a must-get.

MC alerted me to it this morning. I downloaded Bloom and am playing with it right now. Very nice. Would love to show Bloom to my 1983 self… the sounds and the interface were unthinkable at the time.

Friday Morning

Fiestas started yesterday with the burning of Zozobra. This morning I went to town and had breakfast at the Plaza Cafe (((they make a great green chile and feta cheese omelet))) when mariachis started playing. Nothing like green chile and a mariachi group to get one going in the morning. It was also the first time (((well, maybe second time))) I missed the N95.
.
I had to look something up on the N95 recently and found the OS to be too slow and browsing too painful to bother, but that camera is great. Here is to hoping that one of these years an iPhone comes with a decent 5MP camera that also shoots video. Anyway, back to the band. They played Guantanamera with a few added lyrics and a Village People-type step (((or was it more like the Commodores?))), which they all executed together and which brought the house down. Three violins, two trumpets, a guitarron and a lot of fun. Live music is wonderful! Afterwards I rode my Brompton back to my house (((without a helmet and with a little extra energy thanks to the music! Oh, and I never wear lycra or cycling shoes – those are for racers or dorks :) ))).

Customer Care

I called my cellphone provider with a problem and they answered with that scripted cheerfulness (I know because the two people I spoke to had the same rehearsed tone and were working off the same script)…Our conversation went something like this:

Did you have a nice 4th of July weekend?
I am not American. (((I thought that might kill the script, but noooo)))
Well, did you enjoy not having to work and spending time with your family?
I am an orphan and unable to reproduce, and I worked on the 4th of July.

Money goes Mobile

BBC NEWS | The ‘future of money’ goes mobile
It could mean, for instance, that once a traveller has paid for a hotel room online the key to get in the room can be texted to them.

“In addition to the key itself the guest will also get a welcome receipt specifying the room he is staying at,” says Gard Gabrielsen from electronic lock maker Vingcard Elsafe that has developed a hotel booking system using NFC.

“He will also typically get the GPS coordinates to the hotel he is staying at,” he adds.

“But the key thing is that when the guest is then coming to the hotel he can totally bypass the reception desk and go straight to his room,” he says.

“The telephone itself will open the door by just presenting the phone in front of the card reader.”
