Copenhagenize.com – The Copenhagen Bike Culture Blog: Boehner’s Boner Over the weekend, John Boehner, the Republican leader in the United States House of Representatives, made a rather unfortunate comment about the economic stimulus package currently being debated and cycling infrastructure on CBS’s “Face the Nation” – a well-known political news program.
“I think there’s a place for infrastructure, but what kind of infrastructure? Infrastructure to widen highways, to ease congestion for American families? Is it to build some buildings that are necessary?” He stated. “But if we’re talking about beautification projects, or we’re talking about bike paths, Americans are not going to look very kindly on this.”
Hm, the bicycle is the most efficient mode of transport on the planet. Biking is great excercise and bike-paths will make it easier for anyone to get started. Widening highways, really? Is that a priority? If anything we should widen them by adding a separate bike path:
Walked to Mellow Velo this morning, before the roads became to muddy, and picked up Clockwork. Harry (of Larry Vs Harry) shipped the bike with a 22T gear wheel, instead of 20T, and David added a chain-tensioner and as a result I was able to ride the bike up the hills. Could not resist taking a photo with my guitarcase in the box. (((I used Toy-Camera on the iPhone)))

You can download a few computer desktops/wallpapers containing the characters for “Bicycle” on Flickr. I kept the wallpaper dark in order not to be too distracting. A gift from Ochazuke and me.
Click on above image and see three similar wallpapers. And here is the direct link to this full-size image. I am using this one.
The wallpapers will only be available for downloading until Monday Morning.
EcoVelo » Blog Archive » Miami Joins the Party On Saturday, Miami-Dade County will formally inaugurate new dedicated bike lanes along the full length of the Rickenbacker Causeway by closing half the roadway for the morning and letting cyclists, roller bladers and pedestrians have the run of it.
The following weekend, on Jan. 18, the city of Miami will host the third, expandededition of Bike Miami Days, the monthly effort by the administration of Mayor Manny Diaz to promote urban fun and safe cycling by closing off streets in downtown and the Brickell area in hopeful emulation of the famed Ciclovía in Bogotá.
But is it time for Americans to rescue their own finances from their cars?
Families are now bracing for the mother of all recessions. They’re looking for every chance to save a dollar.
Forget lattes and store-brand cereal. If you really want to see where your money is going, take a closer look at your car. Foreign or domestic, it doesn’t matter. It’s a cash guzzler, and it is probably costing you more than anything else except your home.
