I discovered this secret ban after noticing the signs at both ends of my narrow Los Angeles-area street (a favorite cut-through route for drivers hoping to avoid tie-ups on bigger roads). The signs clearly prohibit vehicles over 6,000 pounds.
It turns out every big SUV and pickup is too heavy for my street. Here’s just a sampling: The Chevy Suburban and Tahoe, the Range Rover, the GMC Yukon, the Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia, the Lincoln Navigator, the Mercedes M Class, the Porsche Cayenne S, and the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup (with optional Hemi). What about the Hummer, you ask? Hasta la vista, baby!

Blue keeps the witches away, an old New Mexican saying goes. That is why you find so many doors and windows painted in different shades of blue.

This is a real adobe wall. Notice the straw that is traditionally mixed in with the mud, when the adobe plaster is made. Nowadays it is quite expensive to maintain a wall like this. The people who own this property have all their adobe walls fixed up every Spring. The visible damage to this wall from the rain has happened over the last six months. People who can’t afford the annual traditional plaster often have walls like this, although they usually get plastered over with brown material.

I discovered this guy while watching a Bjork DVD that documents the recording of her latest album, Medulla – which is brilliant I might add! He does hilarious voice-only cover versions of many songs. Bjork found him on the internet and had him do some work on her album. I especially like his 21st Century Schizoid Man. He has a bunch of free downloads, but you have to go through a free sign up.
