Adobe Walls

This is a real adobe wall. Notice the straw that is traditionally mixed in with the mud, when the adobe plaster is made. Nowadays it is quite expensive to maintain a wall like this. The people who own this property have all their adobe walls fixed up every Spring. The visible damage to this wall from the rain has happened over the last six months. People who can’t afford the annual traditional plaster often have walls like this, although they usually get plastered over with brown material.

It’s good to be reminded of the wonderful resourcefulness of people. We have built, not just simple shelters of the natural materials from the earth, but unique architecture of beauty and comfort.
    It’s pretty remarkable isn’t it….
