Breakfast at CC. Ordered a Vietnamese coffee. They gave me a cappuccino with a little sweetened condensed milk added. I told the person behind the counter that it wasn’t like any Vietnamese coffee I had ever had. Vietnamese coffee is usually served iced and is a feast for the senses. It is a ritual, as the coffee is coarsely ground, then individually brewed with a small metal Vietnamese drip filter, into a cup containing condensed milk. The condensed milk and coffee are stirred together and poured over ice. There is a certain scent when drops of coffee hit the condensed milk and of course a big flavor…
I must have looked upset, because the person came by our table and offered to take back the coffee. I gladly exchanged it for a regular cup of joe. What was really funny, was that I was told the owner of the restaurant was proud of his Vietnamese coffee…
Jon suggested a new name: Viet-no-mese Coffee
Uploaded some photos I took of Stevo in Palm Desert. Here is a link to the Slideshow on Flickr
I spent most of the evening in the laboratory, the result of which you can hear tomorrow…
Rusty told us about spending three months on the African coast a few years back. People would greet him by yelling the word the word Fote, which means white in the Susu (Sousou) language of the area. Well, he says he didn’t think about it, he just always yelled back Timmy!!
Our FOH engineer Alan immediately offered $10 if I was to announce Rusty by calling him Timmy! And of course I did it…
Speaking of the McCallum theater in Palm Desert, the concert was a lot of fun. Best sound of the tour – I’ll already say that because I don’t think the hall can be challenged by the last few gigs this week. Beautiful acoustics and a very nice performance that was luckily captured by Alan.
Palm Desert on Wednesday.
We were off on Wednesday and today we awoke at the Canyon Club. Walked around the block in the morning. Two out of the four roads did not have a sidewalk.
We are in Palm Desert where we will perform at the McCallum Theater tonight. This morning Stephen and I played a song for KMIR, Channel 6 TV. We picked Streetlight. Stephen had this to say about our morning.
The first month of our new subscription service is coming to an end. We delivered five songs, including a rehearsal recording, a remix, a rock-flamenco hybrid from 1995, a piece with Rahim, and a 24bit/96kHz version of a One Guitar piece. For April I think we’ll have another one of the rock-flamenco hybrids, an unreleased rumba from 2004 (((Jon and I worked on it recently for a compilation))), an hour-long ambient recording called one 1993, which we made while we were recording The Hours Between Night + Day, and something with the touring band, either from the recent rehearsals in Santa Fe or a live recording from this mini-tour. And, I might find some other stuff I just have to share…
Tomorrow is April 1st and the conficker C worm is supposed to kick into action. 10+ million zombie PCs might/will retrieve their marching orders from the mothership… The worm has been called the smartest nefarious bit of code ever written. Maybe not apocalyptic, but potentially deeply disturbing. Good luck to all you PCs out there. See you on the other side of April 1st.
