We used to put playing cards in the spokes for the unique sound. I suppose that’s what the frog cards are for??

We used to put playing cards in the spokes to make an “impressive sound” I suppose this is what the frogs were for?

Carol: the cards in the spokes are from alleycat races.

Riders do not wear conventional race numbers; instead, “spoke cards”, originally Tarot cards but now often specially printed for the event, have the rider’s race number added with a marker pen and are then wedged between the spokes of the rear wheel. Spoke cards are often kept on the wheel by riders as a souvenir, leading to an accumulation of them over time.

That’s interesting, and a great way to wear your laurels..Fun! I figured it was something different. I didn’t think they looked like they’d make a lot of noise.
    Thanks.
