We are not the same persons this year as last;
nor are those we love.
It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.
W. Somerset Maugham
… lovely image and poignant words… how did you know?

I pondered these words more as I made bread this morning… i guess it it sums up what we all hope for maybe due to our fairy tale influences, to live “happily ever after”. But, change comes as part of the dance that happens between birth and death and perhaps at times we dance to different rhythms than those we love. I find it hard to face the shifts within myself knowing that it has the potential to greatly affect those around me, even if those changes are profound and the path before me has heart. However, isn’t it metamorphosis that brings the butterly into being? Maybe the shedding of old skins comes differently (if at all) and at different times for people that are together, but perhaps there is more to the continuation of love than “happy chance”… oh boy, more to ponder!
