Experiencing this Southern Californian traffic for several days in a row made me think of the boiling frog story. Arriving here and jumping into this pot I immediately felt that the water was too hot and I wanted to get out. But when traffic gradually becomes worse and worse, and adding more and more lanes doesn’t ever solve the problem, when does one jump out of the pot?

I posted about the boiling frog almost exactly twenty years ago. Thanks to Robin for reminding me of that post. I have felt like the boiling frog a few times myself, but luckily the pot always broke, the hot water drained away, and I was free to jump away. :-)
