I stayed in a 400 year old house in the old part of Mértola. It was hot, 101º on Thursday, as a couple of electric fans swirled the hot air around the room. I drove a relatively new Toyota Corolla rental car – with less that 5,000 miles on it – and the proximity alarm was going off constantly, because the streets were so narrow.
So you’re having the Old World driving experience, as I had recently in Ireland! Just no fun and so nerve racking. Irish rental car places would never have cars with proximity alarms!
I think medieval towns should rent horses and small wagons instead of autos. Of course, they would include oats, shovel, and curry brush. ;-). I would probably get too attached to the horse and want to take him home with me!
Ottmar, I do think Portugal is wonderful. When are you going to Porto?
…the geography (and climate too) look and sound a bit like parts of California. Inspiring! So glad you are exploring and sharing your adventures!:>) ThankYou, Ottmar.
interesting how people live and how things get built in remote places…and last!.
Again, lovely images-
