The opposite of play is not work—the opposite of play is depression.

Brian Sutton Smith

So many gems in the book Humankind. Sets my brain abuzz with ideas. .

I am all about play. Good to know there is such a person as a “play theorist.”. As an infant, I often woke up laughing, so said my parents. I still do that. More importantly, I make play out of work. Even difficult tasks. I like to see what step I can accomplish in four counts, then the next step in four, etc. I like to hide and jump out to scare a friend. I haven’t done that much since I was seen on a security TV in the Brooklyn Museum of Art hiding near the basement restroom to scare a friend when he came out. A stern security guard came down, and it took us a while to convince her it was just play!

PS, I just heard someone quote Oscar Wilde, “Life is too important to be taken seriously.”
