I love the sound of con arco bass. I used to be really, really good at it … 42 years ago (French grip).
The bow is definitely a high skill … this sounds absolutely lovely. Kudos to Jon for this.
French is Jon’s choice as well. It does seem suited to more lyrical playing while the German grip is perhaps louder and good for simple orchestral lines. I am just guessing because I don’t play bass. :-)
I told Jon after the 2019 Sedona performance that I thought his playing on both bass guitar and upright bass was exceptionally lyrical. Yeah!
