I recently learned that many of the first books that were printed following the invention of the Gutenberg press were books about witchcraft. Perhaps there is hope for the internet after all.

I do have hope – in the undeniable power of intelligence, which is the root of the internet. I vote for freedom of speech, even if worthless things are said. The value of the internet, I think, far outweighs the mess of it. There are still books written about witchcraft and even worse conspiracy theories, yet progress goes on thanks to the brave few who fight for the truth, and great books (and blogs) are still written.
