I will spend most of the day in my studio today, going through all the music we recorded last week…

Introducing the “Maha Sub Ick”. Maha means great in Hindu… Don’t worry, you’ll get to hear it, as we used it on the new album and will bring it on tour. The best kick microphone!
Air – Moon Safari
Chic – C’est Chic
David Bowie – Let’s Dance
Al Green
Jeff Beck – Wired, Blow by Blow
Dictionary of musician’s slang:

“Swing”, like most fields of endeavor, also has it’s own special lexicon. Once used mostly by the musician’s themselves, the slang has now become a part of the greater society. And, what is even more remarkable, is the way the language has prospered. It is still widely used today, AND growing.

a few examples:

I’m Booted – Hip; Understand.
Ex: Gotcha, daddy-o, “I’m booted.”

In the GrooveReally Good!
Ex: Benny’s solo was really “in the groove!”

In the MixThe group; The happening.
Ex: With that cat “in the mix”, we can’t

In The PocketWhen a band’s rhythm section really grooves.
Ex: They were really “in the pocket”,

There is no cure for birth and death save to enjoy the interval.
– George Santayana

Very nice metronome for the iPhone/iPod. Large tap button and readout. Loud enough, on the iPhone, for practicing without using headphones. Tuning tones. Calculator for setting delays depending on the tempo selected. This one get used the most. It’s not as versatile as the DrBetotte, but the tap button and readout are larger, making it more useful in many situations, and it’s only $0.99.

Beat Counter PRO for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

At first I thought Michael was reading news or email on his iPhone, as we were listening back to different takes in the studio, but he was checking our tempi with this app.
I listened to this brilliant talk by Bill Gates last night. Check it out:

Chile quake may have tipped Earth’s axis –
The massive earthquake that struck Chile on Saturday may have shifted Earth’s axis and created shorter days, scientists at NASA say.

The change is negligible, but permanent: Each day should be 1.26 microseconds shorter, according to preliminary calculations. A microsecond is one-millionth of a second.

But fear not, we can also lengthen days…

On the other hand, the length of a day also can increase. For example, if the Three Gorges reservoir in China were filled, it would hold 10 trillion gallons (40 cubic kilometers) of water. The shift of mass would lengthen days by 0.06 microsecond, scientists said.

BBC News – Man drove car while ‘walking’ dog in County Durham
Police caught Railton driving his car with the dog lead attached through the window, after being alerted in Stoney Heap Lane by a cyclist.

In mitigation, his solicitor, Paul Donoghue, said: “He accepts it was a silly thing to do, borne out with an element of laziness.”

Laziness? Ya think?

  1. Brenda

I like the name chosen “SandPit”, which shows the hustle and bustle of adults, and it makes me wonder why we forget the childlike joy of a building project within a child’s sandbox or if fortunate, a sandy beach shore for building roads, houses, sandcastles, caves, mountains,to explore .. even the child learns to accept how temporary and fragile and yes fun it is to build but a “Pit”? .. so the child happily sits and waits to gaze and dream to enjoy life … not hustle and bustle of adults.
Thanks for what all you share at Ottmar – Friends, it is good to slow down from the hustle and bustle..

  2. Carol

If Bill Gates and wife are behind something, a lot can get done. To have a genius that has shown leadership in innovation, and the clout to get it going, we might see some realy improvements.
