Obtain permission to reincarnate

China tells living Buddhas to obtain permission before they reincarnate – Times Online
Tibet’s living Buddhas have been banned from reincarnation without permission from China’s atheist leaders. The ban is included in new rules intended to assert Beijing’s authority over Tibet’s restive and deeply Buddhist people.

Read on! Stupid. Outrageous. This is of course more about taking away the authority of a Tibetan Lama to recognize a Buddha, than to actually give or deny permission to reincarnate. In other words, the Chinese government continues to undermine the religious authority of Tibetan Buddhists.

Somewhat unrelated I wonder whether the Olympic spectacle will backfire for China. Last week I read that the US Olympic Committee recommends that American athletes wear face masks on and off the field and live in South Korea and wait until the last moment to fly into Beijing for their competitions. That will really create a great impression… athletes needing to wear masks because the pollution is so damn bad.

The 14-part regulation is effective Sept. 1.

this is absurd and offensive..the chinese government just needs to stop. I cannot understand the threat that buddhism must obviously be to the chinese..I hope this will just be dismissed…
