Take a Walk

Santa Fe River

I have a new idea for a game.

If you should come to Santa Fe this year, take a little walk. Go east on Alameda. Cross Paseo de Peralta. Take a right across the bridge on Delgado Street. Take a left right after crossing the river and find the little foot-path (shown in the above photo) that runs between the dirt road and the river. Follow the path east until you come to another bridge across the river. This is a little foot-bridge that will take you back across the river to Alameda. Continue walking east on Alameda. Take a right on Paseo de Peralta, and a left on Canyon Road. Walk east on Canyon, past the park on the left, until you come to a little road on the right.

That is Acequia Madre, a lovely little road. Walk west on that road and enjoy the sights. Cross Camino del Monte Sol and continue on Camino del Poniente, which will turn right and re-join Acequia Madre shortly. Continue west on Acequia Madre. On the right side you will soon see a school and on the left side there are a series of beautiful dead-end roads. Do explore. Soon you will have a choice: You can take a right on Delgado, followed by a left on Canyon Road, or you can take a right on Garcia Street, rest at Downtown Subscription, a coffeeshop and newsstand, and walk north on Garcia until you hit Canyon Road.

Shangrila, a Tibetan store will be across the street on Canyon road, in the back…between Garcia and Delgado streets… At Shangrila you buy some Prayer Flags or a Free Tibet Bumper Sticker. Send me a photo of your car with the bumper sticker or your house with a string of prayer flags and I will send you one of my drawings. Not a photocopy or scan of my drawing, but the actual page from my notebook.

The walk will last about an hour and you will enjoy it thoroughly.

How hot does it get in the summer? I’ve got vacation the last two weeks of July and would love to head up to Santa Fe. Otherwise, it’ll have to wait till Christmas. Although, I do have a week the end of the month but that might be too soon.

Two out of three ain’t bad…I do have a ‘Save Tibet’ bumper sticker and I do have a wee string of prayer flags hanging, but I didn’t get them at the end of what must be a breath-taking walk. Of course anywhere in Santa Fe is.

Do you visit the Ark as well? I loved that store and miss it so much. There is some very positive energy there. Funny, I used to live around there, just off of Gonzales Rd. below Hyde Park. My family has a beautiful view overlooking the city. You should see it sometime.
