BBC/Radio 4 – Acoustic Shadows

The design and control of the acoustics of a space is as much an ancient art as it is a modern science and it has profound influence on everything from creating a sense of place to the enjoyment of a performance.

Great program on acoustics/reverb/echo. Reverb is where the Past the Present and the Future meet. One of the examples you will hear on this program is On Land, which is one of my favorite albums of all time. Brian Eno recorded the music in New York and played with some marvelously long reverb settings. One thing I immediately noticed with this album is that it is not cute, the way many New Age albums are. In fact some of the music is quite sinister even though the sounds are very beautiful. A highly recommended trip!
