Discovering how the reverb worked with the guitar was a revelation for me. I can preserve the beauty of the nylon string guitar attack but add a beautiful, sustained presence (almost like an electric guitar…)…. yes please!!!
What you see in the video is what I used. The Earthworks SR40 plugged straight into the MixPre-6II, which ran on an Anker battery pack. I recorded onto an SD card in the MixPre. A computer didn’t get involved until I was home and listened to what I had done.
The Anker 537 battery pack lasted the entire week. That MixPre is a very efficient machine and the mic-pres are obviously really lovely.
Yes, it was. The only difference was that for Rain Poems I used the MixPre as mic pre and converter and the recording itself happened in Pro Tools. I was working on finding the mic sweet spot and about halfway through Rain Poems I found it.
Yes, that’s a game changer. I have incredible mic pres but haven’t used them since my move. Only the mic, the MixPre and the Pro Tools on my laptop. And only Mic and MixPre for Big Cave Versions.
Really, really nice. I love the ambience and the “flow” (i.e. ‘ how one tune flows to the next’) …
I assume you just use the mic pre on the MixPre-6II? and it is the interface to the computer as well?
Anyway … love it!
Glad you are enjoying it, Steve.

>mic-pres are obviously really lovely.
I had no idea the built in mic-pres were of that caliber.
Was _Rain Poems_ recorded the same way? Do you not “need” an external mic preamp anymore? If that’s the case … that’s pretty amazing.
