I wonder whether all serious art photographers will eventually be analog shooters. Like Sugimoto, for example. Perhaps a clear delineation with appear between photographer and image maker. The image maker uses digital equipment, uses software to develop or manipulate the capture, may even use AI to further enhance the image, while the photographer uses film and a darkroom with chemicals and makes real prints.
I almost wish that would be me but I never liked working in a darkroom. Even when I was fourteen I didn’t like the chemicals. Back then the alchemy of it should have fascinated me. I hunt light like photographers of old but I also love the scentless mobile darkroom that is my laptop. I actually do very little to my captures. There is not a lot of processing and I don’t use Photoshop. And I love that I can capture a dark moment with my phone without having to look for a tripod.
