Practicing

When practicing a particular form, especially when I am not at home, I use a pair of noise-canceling headphones. Any pair that has a transparency mode will do. I listen to the piece I need to learn on the headphones and play along. With the transparency mode I can hear the guitar I am playing alongside the music from my phone. Right now I am learning the arrangements for the concert with the NM Philharmonic orchestra, next Saturday.

Exciting. I have never tried playing (piano) along with a recording of a piece I’m learning. I can’t wait to try it.

I have recently improved my success with learning European Portuguese, which has such a challenging pronunciation. Instead of learning a number of words at one sitting, or learning the written words and phrases, I work only with the video clips of native speakers saying phrases, just two or three phrases at a sitting, which include the words written under the video. I can repeat each clip over and over, mimicking the Portuguese person. I find the phrases I have Learned this way stick in my mind. I Believe this is the way a Child learns to talk, going directly from my ear to my speech.
