We bought a thrift store guitar for $25 and drove out to the Camino Real, South of Santa Fe. There I proceeded to throw the guitar into air while Eric Swanson took photographs. Having protected guitars all my life, it was quite a strange feeling to destroy this one. The guitar was remarkably resilient, though – it took several throws to break it apart. (When you see somebody break apart a guitar on stage easily, that means a roadie sawed half-way through before the show…)
This 12″ 45 was released by Epic Records because the A+R person for the Dance division kept hearing “Havana Club” in clubs – on white label underground vinyl. So they released an official version.
