The server that hosts this website and Diary was down and had to be restored from backup. As a result three posts and a few comments disappeared from this Diary. I was able to find the posts and put them back up, but alas your comments are gone.

Honey

I dropped by the honey shop this week and tasted a few different types of local honey before settling on a quart of Mountain Gambel Oak. I learned that this honey is made from the sap of oak trees rather than from floral nectar. Nearly all of the honey you can find in health food stores is actually from Brazil, Mexico, or Canada, and buying it doesn’t support the local bees and beekeepers. Buying local honey is a good thing, but this store makes the selection process a joy as well.

Gadiel Ramirez makes honey. His shop is called Honey Salón – Honey Salón website. Next time you come to Santa Fe you should pay him a visit.

Foley

I knew that ambient sound in movies is called Foley, but what I didn’t know is that there was an actual guy named Jack Foley…

Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound (2019)
An exploration of the history, artistry, and emotional power of cinema sound, as revealed by legendary sound designers and visionary directors…

That should be a very interesting documentary.

Papaya

In 1978, somewhere in India, I was introduced to the delightful combination of papaya and yoghurt. The papaya is sliced in half, the seeds are removed, and then the fruit is filled with yoghurt. A slightly sour yoghurt is best, because it creates a wonderful contrast to the sweet flesh of the papaya. I use a sheep’s yoghurt called Black Sheep. I eat this with a grapefruit spoon, but any spoon will do.
