Monday Barcelona

On Saturday I did some work on the Barcelona Nights version from The Santa Fe Sessions (the 2003 album is out-of-print, but we still have a some CDs for sale). It’s not done yet, I already hear a few things I would like to change (mostly EQ-wise), but check it out.

You can download the 320kbps mp3 file here, and a 24/48 FLAC can be downloaded here.

Thanks a lot – as usual – for the wonderful music!

One Q: a couple of tracks of the subscription ones, maybe 4-5, including “2 Sisters”, don’t play on my iTunes anymore. Is this intended? They play on Windows Media Player, though, but not on iTunes.

Boris, I can’t think of any reason why that would be so and it is certainly not intended. They are simply mp3 files and should play in an mp3 player, be it iTunes, Songbird or that other program you mentioned.

Do those files you mentioned still play in your mp3 player, e.g. iPod?

I don’t know enough about the Windows OS to be able to help you with that problem, but know that there is nothing about our mp3 files that should make them expire. They are standard mp3s.

All of the mp3s for Ottmar-Friends have the same cover art embedded and all of them should show up in one album in iTunes. The album is called “Ottmar-Friends Subscription”.

Hm, maybe your PC was infected by a virus that targets Ottmar-Friends mp3s? :-)

I’ve downloaded all the Friends mp3s via pc (vista) and they all play on my ipod. This doesn’t really help Boris but confirms what Ottmar says. By the way, The Ottmar Friends album is great for mountain walking – thanks.

Well, I have no idea why I used the word “intended”. Sorry for that. I let all songs play in iTunes yesterday. It’s 7 songs. The info is there, as is the “Ottmar-Friends Subscription” album. But no cover art. Strange. But it is only with iTunes. (I do not have a portable mp3 player :))

    Boris:

Let’s see, there were 5 downloads in March, 8 in April, 4 in May, 7 in June, 6 in July, 3 in August, 6 in September, 7 in October, and 2 this month… makes 48 downloads so far. That number includes a few FLAC downloads and a couple of AIFFs. But basically, since you started in March you should have downloaded at least 40 mp3s.

The cover I embed in every subscription mp3-file looks like this:

I figure that way all of the songs from this year have the same cover and belong to the same album, which is “Ottmar-Friends Subscription”. I enter “Ottmar Liebert” as the Album Artist and then e.g. “Lava” or “Ottmar Liebert + Luna Negra” as the (Song-)Artist – most music cataloguing software seem to be able to differentiate between album-artist and song-artist in that manner.

    Boris … try this:

Highlight one of the files that won’t play. Right click your mouse, and create a new version of the same file, but use a different format, say AAC or something. You can change the file conversion format by changing the import settings. On a Mac this is under “Preferences” I suspect it’s something similar on a PC.

    See what happens.

I agree with Kaz ageless!!! I love this song!

    Excellent job.

P.S. Boris – your iTunes problem may be corrected if you remove the song from your playlist and add it back again. This could have been caused if the song was moved and your iTunes is looking for the tracks in the incorrect location.

Thanks Ottmar and thanks Steve! Well, I just wanted to mention it since it occurred strange to me. All the other files work just fine. And funny as it is, I can play the mentioned files in the Windows Media Player. The only thing I did is that I changed the “Artist” to “Ottmar Liebert” to have all OL songs in one place – just my habit. But I did this to other files which still work in iTunes as well. So, no pattern to recognize.

Anyway, will try Steve’s suggestion on the weekend. And again, I apologize for bothering you.
