Carectomy.com: Removing Cars from People – To Make Cities “Resilient,” Reduce Car Travel
Suburbs on the fringe built with all the certainty of the future are now very uncertain because people living there sometimes have to spend 40 percent of their household budget on transport, and 40 percent is not sustainable. If you’re going from $3.50 a gallon gas to $6 a gallon, which is the price of fuel in Europe . . . many of these suburbs will be abandoned. They are not resilient.

I used to live in Sedona, AZ during the 70’s and would visit quite frequently the Paolo Soleri Arocsanti project based on his theory of Arcology
“Arcology advocates cities designed to maximize the interaction and accessibility associated with an urban environment; minimize the use of energy, raw materials and land, reducing waste and environmental pollution; and allow interaction with the surrounding natural environment.”
Website at Arcosanti.org. This will be a community of 5000, based on “non-use of the automobile”.
