CalliGRAFFi is an on-going project about mapping out the connections between East Asian calligraphy and West Coast graffiti. Graff writer Ricardo Richie ‘Apex’ and I are studying each other’s forms and techniques and are using this knowledge to create interpretions using out own traditional tools.

We are also tracing the roots of these artforms, using carving (the source of Chinese calligraphy) and architectural sculpture to build out the word forms the way we see them–which is as three-dimensional rhythmic gestures in space.
