DuraPaks?

See this post.
I wrote emails to William McDonough‘s contact person and a person at Melcher Media regarding the material used for Durabooks. Wouldn’t it be fab if we could convince a manufacturer to create a DigiPak using that material? A DuraPak? We prefer DigiPaks over Jewel Cases because so many Jewel Cases crack and break in transit. I also like the look of the DigiPak, but I would love it even more if it was non-tree material. I think it would hold up even better, judging by the Cradle to Cradle book I bought.

Update: a person at Melcher Media wrote back that they thought it was a nice idea and passed my email on to the Production Director. More and more artists/record companies are switching away from the Jewel Box these days. Maybe the “DuraPak” can become a reality!

It must be a lot more sturdier in texture. It would interesting to think what else could be made from the same material. The colors on the books like nice and vivid. There seems to be no loss in the quality of design.

I like the design of the book, although a little weighty, the CD case would be cool. But I agree the CD is not going to be the standard very much longer. It would be interesting to do an inventory of everyday items and find a way to make them upcycleable like “Cradle to Cradle” is.
