Anthony Garone – Guitar Stuff – Lesson 3: Frippruary
Fracture, Moto Perpetuo – section A.
Get ready for the hardest guitar piece you’ll ever try to play in your life. It’s taken me years to get to this point, and it’s still not ready.

I have been working on this for a couple of days now. Great excercise for left and right hand.

Good question. No, I am using my fingers. Working on this with a pick would not be useful for me. No pick has ever touched these nylon strings… (actually they are mostly not-nylon since I use the D’Addario Composite strings)

My tempo is only a little faster than the video of the slow version and I am not sure it can be played at full speed with fingers, but I will give it a try over the next few years. Even at slower speeds it is a great excercise.

I just played it against the metronome and was able to play it all the way through at 100BPM. I can play most of the piece at 110BPM, but this little section catches me at that tempo:
Fracture
Why? Because the fingering suddenly changes and because one has to sweep several strings with one finger, something that is commonly done with a pick, but not as common using fingers. Gimme a year and I’ll have it up to speed!

    Hi Mr. Liebert,

Never in my wildest dreams did I think a guitar lesson of mine would attract so much attention. It’s an honor to have you and Mr. Fripp view my work.

I’m mainly writing to tell you that I just posted the next piece of Frippruary. This lesson is much more difficult. http://www.garone.net/anthony/music/guitar/lesson004.php

Many thanks for the referrals. :)
