Chautauqua looks like a barn cathedral and soundwise takes some getting used to. Sometime during our second set it all came together – could have a combination of factors, like atmospheric changes in pressure and us getting used to the huge echoes of the big room. Duende del Amor felt fantastic. During the encore I could feel one or two of my right hand nail coming lose. I know they were at the end of their duty cycle, but didn’t want to force them to come off in order to replace them – because they would have damaged my real nail a little. So, I hoped they would last the show and indeed they did. My brother drove up from Santa Fe in his new Scion, 35mpg he said, to see and hear the new band. He took a bunch of photos during the show. Here is one of them – more to follow:
The concert sounded great to my wife and me from the fourth row left side (facing the stage). I did not notice any echoes or any unusual distortions. I am always amazed at how crisp and powerful sound is from the band but especially the acoustic guitar. You make it look so effortless and free. I could feel that the last set really came together and the final two songs were just excellent but I must say that the first set was also very enjoyable and powerful.
Have you always used steel strings? I was thinking that you only used a nylon string classical guitar.
Well, J, he uses an electric at most shows, which is of course steel string, but….did he play a steel string acoustic?? That doesn’t sound like something OL would do! Now I’m interested :)
Which Scion did your brother get? I’m in the market and have been looking at these as a possibility. Does he have any comments? It’s not a Prius, but what is?
I would imagine the Cathedral sound would be awesome with you guys! Will the photos be shown at this site perhaps? Safe Journey!
Thank you for a wonderful evening, it was truly magical! The Chauataqua venue suited you so well. We saw you perform at the Galaxy Theater in CA several years ago and that was great, but there was something really special about your performance last night. Perhaps it was the summer air and the mellow atmosphere. You really “connected” with the audience and I think everyone felt it. I was thrilled to have experienced it.
Matt, regarding the Scion:
I bought the BOX, the Scion xb.
Same frame and engine as the Toyota Echo. The car is awesome. Toyota quality. Surprisingly more zippy than I thought. Truly a joy to drive. And oh so spacious, you really think one is in a much larger vehicle. The car comes standard very well equipped and only costs $ 14250.-.
Thank you Stefan! Time for a test drive.
